The Angst of Competition

OK, so I entered 2 paintings for a state wide competition at the Muskegon Museum of Art. It's juried so you have to be accepted to compete. I didn't get it. Very sad. So I go to pick up my paintings. Big pain, 90 minute drive to go back and get them, not to mention the entry fee. So while I am there, I look at the exhibit. AND, this is a BIG AND! I recognize one of the accepted works from a homework assignment from my on line classes. Not a project or anything that would require any creative thought. Just a drawing from a picture of a model provided by the school. Oh UGH! I could have just entered my version of the same drawing!

Paint, paint, paint

Painting takes a lot of time as I find it hard to switch back and forth between activities. It's especially hard to get into artist mode, switch to military more, and then switch back again to artist mode. Sort of like having 2 lives or something. I do enjoy painting into the wee hours of the morning, but this doesn't work well with having any sort of life outside of art. The military also tends to like people to be early risers. Swimming is good for inspiration as I can clear my head as I go back and forth in the pool, not a whole lot to distract you from your thoughts while staring at one end or the other of the pool.
